Playing STAROPHAGE
STAROPHAGE is a single-player, turn-based tactical horror game set aboard NEREID, a remote station built for xenobiology research and quarantine. Its crew has gone silent, its records are sealed, and an unauthorized recovery beacon has brought your team to its doors. Finding out what happened means entering a place where information is as valuable as firepower.
Dormant alien Seeds are a decision waiting to happen. Light, sound and biological links can influence what emerges. Before you act, consider the possible creature responses and whether your team’s positions and abilities can handle the result.
Hatching a Seed makes that choice irreversible. The challenge begins before the first attack: you help determine the threat that will share the room with your squad. Choosing a form is part of planning the encounter, alongside deciding where to stand and which specialist should move first.
Your operatives bring different ways to solve a problem. Engineers work with station infrastructure, scientists uncover information, gunners use force to reposition threats, and xenobiologists make dangerous connections with alien life. Coordinate those strengths to create opportunities for the rest of the team.
Turn-based encounters give each action a place in your plan. Consider who needs information, who can change the environment and who is exposed after a move. Rising stress and incomplete knowledge complicate the decisions, making squad position and action order central to survival.
An airlock can become a trap. Sound can pull a creature away from a route you need. A biological connection can provide a way through a passage. Doors, power and containment systems are tools to consider as you explore the station’s sealed sectors.
Recover research, search for signs of the missing crew and follow the evidence behind the beacon. Every discovery gives your recovery team a reason to push deeper, while every encounter asks how much risk you are prepared to accept to get everyone back out.
